My husband has been bugging me to go here for ages so when we were in town today, I finally agreed. It's a simple little spot, relatively busy at lunch with an older crowd.
We ordered a cod plate with fries, tartar sauce and coleslaw, plus battered mushrooms to start. The mushrooms were alright, a little soggy maybe but still good. I love fried mushrooms and will always order them - of the many many I've eaten, these were maybe a 3.5 out of 5.
The fish came quickly and I have to say, I got the cod because it's generally the highest quality fish around here, but... I'm not 100% sure that it was cod. It was a little low-profile for cod, with some gray parts I've never had on cod fillets before. Who can say, though, maybe I'm wrong. In any case, the fish was decent. Not too greasy, good size. The fries were fine too, as was the coleslaw. I will say that a chunkier, fresher tartar sauce would really have improved the plate overall. -

Great halibut and chips perfectly cooked with a nice light batter. Service was friendly

The food was okay, fish could have been cooked a bit more. Portion sizes were fine.
The waiting staff on the other hand, needs proper training. My waitress walked away as I was ordering so I was not able to finish ordering until she came back with the meal itself. by then I didn't bother. But what I saw will stop me from ever going there again. I witnessed TWO waitresses put ice in someone glass and place the scoop on top of the ice again. So whatever was on their hands transferred to the ice and us customers drank it in our drinks. Not only is that just gross, it a health board violation. And if that's what they are doing in front of us, what are they doing in the kitchen that we can't witness.
Never again will I eat there.
